Flapjacks
A standard chewy and filling oat flapjack which can be used as the basis for many variations

- 170 g margarine
- 100 g caster sugar
- 170 p porridge oats
- 60 g self raising flour
- A pinch of salt
- 2-3 tsp of Golden Syrup optional
Preparatory Tasks
Preheat oven to 180 ° C
Line an 8" x 12" baking tin (approx. 20cm x 30cm) with greaseproof paper
Weigh the oats and flour using a suitable bowl or container then add the salt
Weigh the sugar into a separate bowl or container
Weigh the margarine - ideally directly into the pan to be used
Cooking
Melt the margarine in a pan over low heat
Add the sugar and stir until the mixture is fully dissolved
(Optional) Add the golden syrup and continue stirring the mixture
Remove the pan from the heat
Mixing
Add the oats, sifted flour and salt into the warm mixture
Stir until everything is completely coated
Pour the mixture into the lined baking tin and level it off
Baking
Bake on centre shelf for about 17/18 mins (until a light brown colour)
Remove from the oven and remove from the baing tray using the greaseproof paper, leave to cool on a wire rack
Cut into required shapes and store in an airtight container
