A standard chewy and filling oat flapjack which can be used as the basis for many variations

  • 170g margarine
  • 100g caster sugar
  • 170p porridge oats
  • 60g self raising flour
  • A pinch of salt
  • 2-3 tsp of Golden Syrup (optional)
Preparatory Tasks
  1. Preheat oven to 190°C
  2. Line an 8" x 12" baking tin (approx. 20cm x 30cm) with greaseproof paper
  1. Melt the margarine in a pan over low heat
  2. Add the sugar and stir until dissolved
  3. (Optional) Add the golden syrup and continue stirring
  4. Remove from the heat
  1. Add the oats, sifted flour and salt into the warm mixture
  2. Stir until everything is completely coated
  3. Pour the mixture into the baking tin and level it off
  1. Bake on centre shelf for about 20 mins (until a light brown colour)
  2. Leave to cool on a wire rack
  3. Cut into required shapes
